Eye for an eye.
If they cut up someone with a chain saw, use the same method for their execution.

I don't think that it would be possible. The threat of being executed doesn't always stop people from committing such crimes, I don't think televising executions would stop that. And if they are televised, there's no way to ensure that future murderers will actually watch it. The negative consequences is simply the fact that an execution is being televised. People who don't need to see such a thing will end up watching it, like children.

Public executions have been done for thousands of years. The Romans even had an arena to watch killing for sport. It did not deter anyone from killing, but actually made people more insensitive to it,,, and even bloodthirsty, which is the opposite of deterrance.
violent movies and tv shows, and the news have the same effect. Rather than getting so disgusted that the USA has become peacemongers, our country seems now to be constantly in war mode, and committing atrocities in Iraq as we had dismissed the Geneva Conventions.
Perhaps, instead of modeling killers,,, and people who do executions are killers,,, we need more modeling of how to make and keep peace.

im afraid not dear,i think we have to remember that 99% of murders are done by someone who knew the person,
these murders are normally not pre-planned and people dont stop to think about the consequences of their actions before commiting these dreadfull crimes,
i think punishment for murder should always be death, and we should try and make it an unpleasant experience for the murderer,,
dignity is not something they deserve as they never gave the victim any thoughts of dignity when they take their lives away,,
maybe something like locked in a cell no food ,no water untill they and die, it could be televised like a big brother type show and be watched around the world

ta much

I see no need to televise executions because that would give fame and notoriety to the murderer and it would glamorize execution. It would also further the fascination with violence on TV and video games.

What we need to do is actually execute people in a timely manor, like take them out back and shoot them right after their appeal is denied. That would detour murder, I'm sure.

People don't commit crimes thinking they're going to get caught, so I don't think publicly televising executions will deter murders from taking place. I don't think murderers think they will get caught to begin with. I am more than certain during the act of violence the murderer's thoughts are not "I'm so glad I'm killing this person, I am SO going to get caught! I can't wait for them to haul me into jail!". Further more, what kind of sick place would we be if people got a hard on watching executions on television? "OOOOHHH!!! HONEY!! HAVE YOU HEARD ABOUT THE LATEST MURDERER?? THEY'RE EXECUTING HIM TONIGHT ON ABC!! LET'S GATHER THE FAMILY AND WATCH!!!!!"

If they limited the number of appeals to ONE, then quickly carried out the sentence in a public forum it would help. The negative consequences would be having to listen to all of the "crybaby criminal coddling, save the whales and spotted owls, but let women kill their babies" liberal leftist horse crap.

Sadly, I don't believe so. Man is historically and inherently warlike. It goes all the way back to Cain and Abel in the Bible. All you have to do is check out the news and there is just so much useless slaughter each and every day.
