Yes, it's like falling down a bottomless pit of absolute darkness and learning not to fear so much over time, because along the ride so far you've been graced by selfless acts of kindness and love that you begin to finally idiotically trust in the Eternally Shining Light ( i have all kinds of spiritual mumbo jumbos jargon up my sleeve Linty !beware!)
There is a Benevolent power, tender and giving ....if only we open up to it and let go...........i'm still struggling with trusting life though...

I think everything happens for a reason, and if something _doesn't_ happen, there's a reason for that too. It's just that most of the time we can't tell why something happens-like someone's death at the hands of another (sorry for choosing something so depressing). I've seen stuff like that on the news, and sometimes the death of that person is the only thing that puts the killer in prison. So yeah, I tend to trust Life, even though it's really hard to do. I think that no matter how hard you try to change things, things will not change unless they're supposed to.

Yes, most people feel something like what you are describing at one time or another. Different people interpret those feelings differently according to their beliefs and convictions (or lack thereof). Life (with the big "L") is what we are all a part of and part of what you feel... that greater "something" that feels so much a part of you truly IS you. You are Life and Life is you. In a very real sense you are a part of every living thing there is. And here's the BIG surprise. EVERYTHING is alive! Maybe not in the sense we usually think of life, however everything that exists is, at the most basic level, made up of the same stuff... the same energy made manifest. Not just trees and flowers and animals but mountains and streams, wind and rain, even buildings and cars. All of it made up of basically the same stuff that light is... light... energy manifesting in myriad forms and expressing itself in myriad ways. And you are a part of all of that... connected to every other atom in the Universe. This is not religion but science. It is what the most recent discoveries in Physics are telling us. You ARE the universe... and the universe is you. You are an expression of Life... one of an infinite myriad of expressions. Even "death" is an expression of Life.

I think our capacity to trust in the process of life comes from our earliest experiences in childhood. Parents are the universe for a child for the first 3-4 years of life. If the child never learns to trust, then subsequent experiences tend to become a kind of self fulfilling prophecy.
Intellectually though, I agree with a belief in something larger than ourselves.

i have and feel that whenever i see what people suffer, when i hear what they do @ unbeliveable circumstances and when i read a question like this one
as a little kid i used to be afraid of the dark, the unknown, the irresistable
but now life seems to be just a speck of dust which will be blown like everything that exists, there is no space for faith because i have life in my hands not the other way round. its just that i feel that we are, our life is, just the starting of a beautiful end which can control by controlling our life with the help of that... that thing you mentioned...
sometimes it seems a beautiful flower of confused faiths...

just the fact that there is so much mystery in life reflects a dimension beyond our thoughts; beyond our minds...
feelings...
do we control feelings or do our feelings control us?! do we create our own feelings ...do we have control over how we want to feel? do we have control over our desires? we have them already!
Circumstances...
we aint here out of a conscious choice...our circumstances are manifestations not created consciously by us...
what does this all reflect to?
well.............
there is something bigger than our thoughts, feelings and circumstances...
is there a force separate from us? independent of us?
if it were, then our endeavours would have no meanings...
we are concentrated form of energy...
when we are focused on our physical self...we are cutoff from the formless...
and when we shift our focus beyond the physical self...we are more in tune with infinity...with the ethereal...
when the physical self communes with the formless...there is harmony...and bliss...
prayers, dreams or desires are a way of communion from the physical plane to the ethereal...a way of manifesting intentions...
death is nothing but a transcendence...
faith is an awareness of the formless...of the infinite...of the ethereal...its a transcendence from the physical to a higher self...
faith is an awareness...

Gosh . depth astrology (seeing that there is plenty of "operating fate" mechanics) .. and third eye "total precognitions" could touch on that question ...
But yes .. we have to trust .. even without assurances of the above .. as a Taoist .. there will be peaks and troughs .. trust the ride ...
Sangsara has teeth .. the "light" offers no insurance policy against its occasional harsh nibbles ... but epiphanies that grace you with knowing it has a rhyme to it help ...

I know you didn't ask for Biblical stuff and I'm not going to quote scripture to you, but what you're describing is the Holy Spirit.
