The fate I believe in is that God has a plan for all of us and we are here for a purpose. Whether it's to better someone elses life, have your life used to save another, etc. Once we've completed that purpose, our time is up. There is also no such thing as coincidence. Everything happens for a reason. So, no, I don't think we can control our destinies. We may be able to control the journey we take to reach it, but I think the end result would have been the same.

Fate as it is described, has always been a complete and controlled predestination outcome. If this is correct and no one has any responsibility for anything, no person should be held accountable for their actions, in other words, no thief, no crook and all people in jail should be released as they had no control over their actions. If you wish to describe fate as a scientific law like gravity, or orbital decay then in this measure you could believe in the concept of fate. However if you put it as a factor in the choices we make as free willed human beings we choose our own destiny, we however sometimes do not like to take any responsibility for it. This was a good question all the best...

We have free will, which means that whatever choices we have to make, we're in control of them. Where fate comes in is that sometimes we don't get the choices we want or expect. There's a ton of bad karma floating around and it's not necessarily our fault that bad things happen--bad things happen because people choose unwisely. Technically, that would be their bad karma and bad fate, but it slops over into our lives. If you lived all alone, then your karma would be easier to control--until you went totally apesh!t crazy because of loneliness and isolation. So we need to be around people to be happy and fulfilled and survive OK, but it isn't always easy dealing with fallout from bad karma (as Shakespeare put it, "the slings and arrows of cruel fate.")
Fate isn't technically "cruel"--it's just and unchanging, which can seem cruel. Hamlet was pretty depressed at that point. You have control over how you react to fate. But fate is cause and effect, and you get the effects that are coming, whether you "deserve" them or not. Plus, you cause things to happen that affect you and everybody else. So, do the best you can and set yourself up to have good karma even if you have problems. A clear conscience is the best tool you have in the whole free will-fate-karma mess.

I say fate is bs. Things don't happen for a reason, that is bs as well. Fate is a perception, a thought one may choose either to believe in it or not, how strong or weak of a belife you have. It's more like there's a reason for the things that happen, not the other way around. What an excuse to blame everything that happens in your life towards a being that may or may not exist. That's like saying that you didn't get the job after an interview you had and saying that 'it was god who didn't want me to have a job like that' when it should be more that 'It's not something I was looking for".

Fate = something good/bad happens when you least expect it. I do believe cos if its meant to happen then it will... weird tho.. its like blaming something you like/dislike in the past and say - its fate.. was meant to happen that way etc..
I don't think we have control over our destinies, cos if we insist on doing summin our own way, then its not destiny its control freak time = it won't last long, cos there's tension..

Yes fate exists, but we can change our fates. Fate can be a good thing for you or it can be bad depending on the situation. The important thing (although not always easy) is to be positive and make decisions for yourself and work out what you would like to do.
(The most basic example is your parents will decide on your education which school you go to, where you live etc. And they decide how to bring you up, these things have a big impact on how we turn out as people.)

A divine decree or a fixed sentence by which the order of things is prescribed---seems to be the definition that you are looking for.
No, I do not believe in it, and yes, we can change our minds and change our lives everyday. As far as the religious angle of this...we are free to make our own choices, God simply knows the choices that we will make. It is unfathomable to think that we are condemned to a planned future from conception on. Look around...why would anyone be condemned (by merely coming into existence) to living in the poorest neighborhoods in public housing...or starving to death? Or anyone of a hundred different HORRIBLE fates? Another way to approach this is, if you are a spiritual person, why would a divine creator choose before we exist, what our life's outcome will be? Why would it be predetermined that this person will be kind and just, and this person will kill someone? Nah, that would make life a creepy sort of chess game, eh?

Fate is the belief that our paths are predestined and that no matter what we do we can't change that. Personally, I believe in Destiny, which is the belief that we all have potential, and if you fullfil your potential through the choices you make in life, you will reach your destiny. In simple terms: You are fated to die, but you are destined to heaven.

"Fate" is an excuse. Nobody has a control over the chance, but there is a "fate" mind set, so the person does self-programming to a certain result. Makes sense?
