Hello, I wonder why this question in this certain category. I work in a Hi-tech services department and often hear words like Dude and sometimes "Yo". So I think its just the group culture.

When you're whizzing by on a board it is best to use concise words. Also it simply sounds cool - - - don't you just love it when some shaggy Californian blond on a board says "Yo, Dude, blow me?"

If you're around people that says it more often, you'll start saying it yourself.
That goes for accents/phrases/ blahblahblah anything else like that too.
