You would need to know the state and county of the previous marriage. Then you could search that county's public records and see if you found his info.
If he was indeed married before, then there should also be divorce records, but again you need to know the state and county of the divorce (which could be different from where the marriage took place).
If he marries you and his previous marriage was never annulled or the divorce was not finalized, then your marriage will be null and void - like it never happened!
If he goes to get a marriage license, he must answer the question "Have you ever been married?" If he doesn't tell the truth, and goes ahead and gets married, he will likely be guilty of bigamy and falsifying documents. However, no one will know immediately because no one verifies the marriage license application. It could be years before something happens that brings out the previous marriage.
For example, his other wife could get into financial trouble and creditors could try to come after him as her husband.

All marriages are registered with the states office of Vital Records. If the marriage was done in a JP living room... the JP must send the info to the state's Vital Records Office... All marriages are recorded. So if you live in NY and want to know of a marriage in CA... you write to the state's office of Vital Records and put in the fee for a copy and services to look up the marriage... giving them a time frame as to when it was done... and possible where it was done... and you can get the certificate. It is part of what is called... a public record. If a person was married... there should also be a record of a divorce... as that is required by law to be put into the state's office of Vital Records too... it also is a public domain record.

Okay first of all don't even think of getting married until you have all of these question answered first by him. If you feel that he is keeping secrets then why marry this man, are you in that much of a hurry. If your gut instincts are telling you that he is decieving you in any way and you asked him all of these question and he isn't being honest then don't go through with a marriage that will be a failure from the start.

Honey, if you can't trust your man 100%, sounds like you don't need to be getting married. Marriage is for people who are best friends and can comunicate openly to one another. If he's made mistakes in the past, you can only do one or two things, A. Find out if this is a life pattern in his life B. Relize that it probably is and move on. You can always trust your tummy :)

You can contact the courts in California, as long as they are divored from the previous marriage it doesn't matter what state you get married in. Remember you have to tell social security about th name change and tax status change, that's another way you can find out, it's also on credit reports too.

Typically the county courts have records of anyone married from that specific county. So I am sure if he was married there are records of it. But also agree, if your suspicious then doy uo really love and trust him? Might want to consider everything before making a mistake you could regret later on.

If he won't tell you, you don't know each other too very & shouldn't be married yet. Sounds like there's no trust. Why are you rushing into something that obviously you aren't comfortable with? Respect yourself more than that-you don't NEED this, and it won't make you more complete of a person. Find trust, and talk about with him. This isn't the answer you were asking for-I think if you googled names, etc, you might find it online.

I am not sure if there's any way of checking via the internet but I think it is possible to call the office where marriage records are kept and to confirm one way or the other through that office.

There should be a way to find out, when you get your licence when you fill it out, there's a box that says (case number) for divorced cases. and that you HAVE to make sure that he's through divorce, or he'd be commiting bigamy. I don't think you can find out, he has to be the one to go down to the government or mail a letter to wherever they process marriage certificates to get his first marriage record to prove that he was married once.

everything is in a single data base no matter what state are you in. Its not a confidential thing, a marriage license is a public document. and any interested party can inquire about that.
