No, I never heard of that. In fact, when the priest says "by the powers vested in me" I thought he referred to both the church and the state. Ask at the church, I'm sure they know the procedure.

As long as you go to your local court house and get a marriage license you can have a church ceremony and be legally married.

In Arizona you just get the marriage license at the court and sign it after the church ceremony.

You have to apply for the marriage license and that is done at the courthouse. You can then get married wherever: outside by a Justice of the Peace (found at the courthouse) or by a priest or inside, again by either the Justice of the Peace or a priest.

Just apply for a marriage license and then you can get married in church, if you prefer a church wedding. You do not have to be civilly married before you can get married in church.

A lot of churches now encourage their members to have the civil ceremony first. A marriage can be performed by anyone who has the authority. I do not understand this new trend. It seems that they want to dissassociate themselves from civil responsibility.

You have to get a marriage licence, but absolutely not....the truth is you have to have a legal wedding ceremony, Church, Synagogue, JP, whatever before you are can receive your marriage certificate from State where you are living that makes it legal♥
