Be very nice and respectful of your coworkers -the job will become unbearable in the long run if you don't. And there's another reason below.

Be quick and competent and cool --cooler! --cold! with your boss, especially body language. Be stupid and unresonsive to any sexual advances.

It's likely that one of two things are going on. Either your boss is being nice because he wants you as a girlfrind as desribed in other posts.

Or something else is going on. How much confidential information do you handle in your position? Did your predecessor find out the company was breaking the law and that your boss is a crook? If so, that immediately explains everything. Until you are CONVINCED this isn't the case, you need to listen to all your coworkers about everything -- develop the reputation with them of being a good listener who isn't a squealer -- that's how you can get help spotting the icebergs that sank the career of the person who had your job before.

You'll do fine as long as you realize you're tiptoeing through a minefield every day.

I guess the reason you're asking this is because you feel your co-workers resent you for being the object of your boss's affection. I would recommend that you continue to accept his kindness and not worry about what your co-workers may think about the situation. If they don't like it they can find jobs elsewhere. Additionally, if you actually care and want to be on good terms with your co-workers maybe you can just tell them that you're oblivious as to why he's so nice to you and not to them when they're all such great workers. A little flattery can get you very far...

How new are you? He's probably being nice to you because, you're "NEW". After a certain time passes you might see him starting to treat you like he does the other employees. OR...it could be you're actually doing a good job and your co workers are slackers. It could be for any number of reasons. Keep doing what you're doing and you'll keep getting what you're getting. In other words, just do your job, be nice, be courteous to the other employees and your boss and see what happens.
Good luck... who knows? Maybe YOUR attitude will actually change your boss's...you could be an inspiration.

Be very cautious. You're walking a fine line. It's great that your boss likes you and approves of you, but you don't want to alienate your co-workers either. After all, you'll be working WITH them. Try to back off from your boss a bit and devote more time to creating a relationship with your co-workers. Your co-workers will notice his preferential treatment to you, and they will resent you for it. Before it gets that far, show your co-workers you are ready to work with them and have a good relationship and teamwork.

Sounds to me that this is only temporary b/c if the boss is not nice more than nice then it is only a matter of time before they pick on you as well. Maybe it is b/c being new they don't expect as much from you at this time. If it were me I wouldn't want to work in any bad environment and even though you are not being targeted your co-workers are which creates a hostile and stressful working environment for you. I would start looking for another job asap.

If you're talking opposite sex, than he may be coming on to you, as others have said.

What to do?

Be very careful to treat him politely but completely professional. Never engage in any kind of flirtatious conversation or otherwise unwise behavior that could come back to snap you.

A good rule of thumb: only do, say and act that which you would be completely comfortable doing in the presence of your other co-workers.

Otherwise, not only might you have his unwanted advances to deal with, you'll soon also have the ire of your co-workers as well.

If the person is attrative maybe you should be nice to them and also expalin to your co-wokers that they are really nice but maybe the worker is doing something to make the boss be unhappy with them. Hey being on the boss's side is the best thing! What happens at work stays at work and are you there to make friends or make DOUGH! (I honestly think money sucks and it's all about being happy but es up to you! Make sure you are nice to your co-workers though and don think you are all great cause you got the Boss on your side!)

I know it sounds horrible, but if you like him too (not necessarily sexually), use this to your advantage. If it's a prestigious company, this may get you ahead.

If it bothers you, you'll probably have to find another job. Him being nice to you won't give you a sexual harassment claim if that is what you are looking for.

As for the bitterness that this will cause between your co-workers and yourself....you should get used to that. No one is going to like the "boss's favorite."

Nothing. Consider yourself lucky. Just keep doing what you're doing and if it's something that causes issues at your workplace, go to human resources and explain what's going on. There should'nt be favorites, but unfortunately there are. As long as you know you're not being a brown noser, just keep doin' your thing.
