The reason he didn't get picked was because he didn't have a spot on the team. Even if he had been called up, he would have never of played. He had a couple of chances in some friendlys before the world cup but he didn't impress anyone.

He wasn't chosen to play for Portugal on FIFA's 2006 World Cup because he is considered a "disruptive player."
