i thought chicago was an american city? why arent' permited people allowed to carry a firearm in chicago?

a bunch of you dont read the whole question. permitted. if i pass a background check, a weapons certification class, why cant i carry legally? of course the crazy people have guns....and no law is going to remove those guns from those crazy people. an armed citizenry is responsible for its own protection. oh, i forgot......call 911.

You have to have a permit to carry a concealed firearm and the state of Illinois does not issue them.

Because democrats are in love with socialism. They prefer for the outlaws to be armed, and not the innocent people. Laws are for legal people. Unfortunately, they want to pass laws that they naively think bandits will keep. No matter what laws are passed, outlaws, robbers, assasins, etc. WILL HAVE GUNS, NO MATTER WHAT!!!! So why ban them from the innocent public? Only sick minds can come up with these laws.
oh yeah, I do carry a gun around, even without a license. Any robber try to play tricks on me and he'll find himself with St Peter before he knows it.
Another point. Gun carrying is solely for self-defense, not to try to get that parking spot someone got to before you. You carry a gun, respect people. It's not to show off, or to demand your rights. It's only to protect your life. If your life is not in danger, don't use it or even show it.

the state law states that you can carry a firearm that is Unloaded,
Enclosed in a case and,By persons who have a valid FOID card. so you can engage in "fanny packing", or carrying a unloaded weapon (have a loaded mag in there too, just not in the weapon) in a fanny pack designed to carry it.
a word of warning tho, most police do not think this what the law said, they believe that it is just illegal. it is recommend that you get a fanny packing letter and carry it with the weapon. if you read through the ISP firearm FAQ it will confirm what i have said.
