If your goal is to make money in life, don't go into medicine. More importanly, don't become a brain surgeon. You're looking at 20 years of education to become one: most get an MA and PhD in medicine after they have complete their med degrees and done interns/specializations. You're much better off studying law or business (get an MBA). You'll be making money in your late 20s.

Even interns make a good deal of money. I used to work in the administrative offices of a hospital in CT and the average salaries for docs (just what the hospital paid them) was 1 million - 3 million dollars a year (This of course does not include any office visits etc). Sorry this is not specifically for a brain surgeons, but I will tell you that the 3 million I mentioned was for docs who did all types of surgery. They ARE definitely on the upper end of the salary chart. But, as the poster before me said, if you are in it for the money.... please don't do it. There are too many docs in it for the money, and ultimately it's innocent people who suffer because of it. Do it because you love it, or you will never be happy. Money, albeit quite helpful, is NOT everything.
