Men have been playing parts like that for years and it doesn;t make them gay.
In Greece all parts were played by men , including straight women parts :)

Most of the time, you're going to see "straight" guys play gay guys but once in a while you'll get a very courageous gay man to play a gay character on TV or in the movies. It's simply that it's easier for most actors to claim to be "straight" and don't want to lose the adoration of their fans and lose out on choice roles on both TV and in the movies. Remember Rock Hudson?

To be honest - I find it depressing that it's still a question that could be asked.
Of course it's OK.
Aside from the first important point to make - which is that there would be absolutely nothing wrong if he or anyone else was gay.... Acting is about bringing to life a character - playing a murderer does not make you a murderer in reality....playing a politician does not make you a politician in reality...(and believe me when I guarantee this next one) playing an nice, intelligent or moral character does not make one necessarily so in real life.
It's acting .... telling a story...
There are of course within the arts - many gay people who have traditionally contributed a huge amount in this and all other sectors of our society. So he may be...he may not...but playing a gay character makes one no more likely to be gay than anyone else... it's a job...it's make believe. Most adults can differentiate between the two. If anything - many actors who have the courage in the face of such public ignorance to play gay - are more likely to feel absolutely secure in their sexuality - rather than feeling they have a secret life they wish to protect...
Also - something about the tone of your question prompts me to suggest you examine your understanding of drama as opposed to reality as well as possibly - your understanding that gay people are actually exactly the same as anyone - just they prefer relationships with someone of the same sex...that's it... they don't have horns and tridents... just like I love passion fruit - but hate mangos... I like films and can't bear soap operas... it's just a part of someone and not necessarily their primary defining characteristic.
As long as there is ignorance and prejudice for actual gay actors to contend with (i.e. audiences not being able to just accept them for the job they do without needing to know who they chose to sleep with) I'd defend their right to remain private.
But to reiterate.... make believe.... / ......reality.... quite different.
Hope that answers your question..
Peace:)!

Syntax? Semantics? What are those things in the American English Language? Alliterate? NOT illiterate...Alliterate. Spell Check...Hmmm, what it THAT all about?
The basic job description for an ACTOR is to act, portray or play a part in a play, movie or televised program that may or may not reflect their true self.
If I may...I would suggest reading some more on the subject from reliable sources. NOT E! Entertainment channel. And do not listen to the gossip...

OK, you need to learn how to separate fantasy from reality. Damn, dude! It's called *acting*! It's an act! Don't you think there are gay guys who pretend to be straight, in their lives or on the stage and screen?
OK, like take Anthony Hopkins. He's been Hannibal Lecter a couple of times, he played a butler in Shadowlands, and he played that Kellogg guy with the insane teeth in The Road to Wellville. Does that make him any of those people? Does that make him a killer, a butler, or a crazy health nut guy obsessed with bowel movements and electricity "treatments"? He just studies the character, decides how to bring it to life, and dives in. Good acting can make you anything at all. Is Ron Perlman Hellboy or the Beast? How about the Wizard of Oz--were the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion and the Scarecrow people playing them, or were they for real? Dude, you need to rethink your ideas about acting.

I don't believe an actor who plays a gay character would become gay if he were a heterosexual anymore than putting on a bunny costume would turn a person into a rabbit..

It is okay. It won't make anybody gay. Nor would acting as a murder, an idiot,a rock star, a teacher or anybody else that acters portray all of the time make the actors become those things..

i dont think it would...
it sure would be a weird situation, though...
it would also depend on how intimate scenes are portrayed on the show. (antonio banderas and tom hanks from philadephia springs to mind. they didnt have TOO intimate a scene to play in the movie.)
but in any case, the bottom-line is that it doesn't matter. leave the person/actor alone. let his personal life BE his personal life. why would it matter at all to you?

There is a huge difference between acting and hiding! The guy from JT's group was hiding for what he thought was the sake of his career....and who cares anyways? does it really affect your life directly that someone else is gay?
