For starters we have become a lot more anti-social. Not on a pathological scale (maybe so on that scale too), but on a more social basis.

Where there used to be games played in groups that involved being physical, now we do it all on a gaming platform (PC, PSx, XBox,etc...)

On the other hand, the advent of TV and radio has helped so much in the progression in technological fields. I choose the path in between and say that excessive use of these mediums can dull the brain and prevent social development.

Used in moderation and reasonably anything is good (drugs and substance abuse excluded here; not so much sex {hehehe})
Our pratical skills get lost but we make up for them in other ways. Not a good thing but it's a sacrifice for the cause of extremely fast development.

Cheers

Free time, social mixin' like interaction face to face...

mostly creativity (but some could argue that TV also can help too with that). What I mean by creativity is creativity with your time.

although for some the lack of TV actually made people do more gossip (of course stuff like things talking about TV stars took over that for TV lol).

They survived by creating their own entertainment. What we have lost is community communication. Villages, tribes, neighborhoods used to be involved with each other in most aspects of daily life, now we sit in our own private boxes and watch things happen instead of participating in them.

Back before all the things we have today, people actually did constructive things with their time. Now everyone is lazy. And we have lost family time and respect.
