Hamilton Fish, son of the Secretary of state for Ulysses S. Grant said, "When this country reaches a population of two hundred or two hundred and fifty million people...some overt act of Mexico will force us to go down there. If it does, I hope we will go to stay and bring two or three million Americans down there to bring law and order to that Godforsaken country".

What do you think? Could we? Should we?

Don't forget to read about Fish's notable relatives. Very informative!

Kristy Cordeaux: I've been bad.

Go Kart: In a way, our infrastructure is their infrastructure. Would your fence stop U.S. companies from crossing the border?

Michael R: We would have to give them more money than they are already receiving from their system now in place. How would that reform them? Just make honest crooks out of them I suppose.

Syd C: More important in the U.S. being a leader has more to do with climate, soil and irrigation. That's what makes the labor plentiful. Also, it doesn't follow that they would automatically become U.S. citizens.

aceboyle: I don't understand if you're saying a crack-down on the illegal immigrants or the U.S. government would be more effective. I generally don't support a crackdown on those who have not broken any other laws. It reminds me too much of another gorvernment somewhere in Europe.

Kristy: I've been real bad!

Of course for their benefit! It has been proposed before, even by me, as a bloodless take over leaving the same thieves in charge and likewise making no change in this country.

After all Mexico is a Republic and all we need do is hold elections there and have a few speeches here. This would open all Mexico to our grand social systems.

They would no longer need to risk life and limb to get across the border. They would at once have a living minimum wage as we have here. They would have access to food stamps, medical services, rapid response to disaster situations, At last they would have the right, long denied, to pay taxes and support the American system.

I could go on for pages. It seems there is really no down side to this -- except! Who will take in our crops? Once they are citizens will they still be willing to work?

I know. We could close the schools during harvest and put the students, teachers and administrators in the fields. No pay, just credit for Socialization 101.

Looks like a win-win situation to me.

The US usually tries to solve its problems by attacking or using gunboat diplomacy and it usually ends up a mess. If you attack mexico and you WIN that means millions of mexicans will be automatic US citizens and then central america and south america will be the "new" Mexico. Futhermore the US will become two- one English and one Spanish. The real problem is that the Typical American will not or cannot do the agricultural labour which is done by immigrants. In the 20's and 30's the oakies couldn't do it and before them the black slaves came to an end, so the US relies on illegal immigrants. the US will still need someone to do the bending over and hard work mexicans are doing, so invading wont help, the US will then use poor south americans eventually. The status quo in using illegal immigrants is also a major reason why the US is a major leader in food production, world-wide, and if the invaded mexicans are now US citizens they will soon stop being a source of cheap labour.

Haha. Well, that man had foresight. Mexico's government publicly tells its citizens to make the illegal move to cross the U.S. border. Vicente Fox has been known numerous times to publicly pressure Bush on the amnesty issue also. If politicians in our government didn't have so many conflicts of interest with big business, a true crackdown on illegal immigration would have happened years ago. And I mean a real crackdown. A mass roundup of illegal immigrants. But folks in the Senate and House want to please their corporate paymasters by supplying them with cheap labor from Mexico. Some of the worst offending industries are agriculture, food processing plants, home and commercial construction, etc. Many times those same politicians have a vested interest in the industry. To tell you the truth, I would n't mind to see an invasion of Mexico. The problem is that we will have to occupy Mexico afterwards and Mexicans will indirectly be U.S. citizens. Haha.

Maybe at another time (like the Civil War), but not today. We cannot build good neighbors by invasion, but the Senate just considered a bill that offers Mexico incentives if they clean up their corrupt systems. I favor stronger borders and a trade policy that favors Mexicans staying in Mexico to produce Mexican goods and services. Only when the people of Mexico insist upon safe and responsive governance will it happen.

No i don't thinks we should invade on any one, they are only here for the same reason any other person is here. to make a living for their family. Not all Hispanics are law abiding citizens but if you look at the world today neither are the Americans. they are the ones that are causing all the havoc. First it was hate against the Blacks, now the Hispanics, who's next???. People need to get over stereo types and live their own lives and leave others alone. just because there are a hand full of bad Hispanics not all of them are bad. And not all Hispanics are MEXICAN....... You want to complain all the Mexicans are here taking jobs or what ever but they are not the ones coming over here killing our people.

In the latest Who's Who, searchers may read that the Congressman from the 26th district of New York State is Hamilton Fish, born 1849, son of President Grant's famed Secretary of State. It is a mistake. It is also a joke, for the mistake has persisted in Who's Who for two editions.

No, we are being invaded by Mexico as we speak. We need to beat back this insurgency before we could ever consider invading this country. And besides we need to invade Canada for its socialized medicine. They have a good system up there and we need that more then we need Mexico.

No, because that's basically the answer to their prayers, to sit under our umbrella and have their infrastructure built by america for free. No thanks on that idea...let's get our border fence/border patrol happening instead, and when they finally sort out who's from which country etc., THEN we can talk about what kind of help to give Mexico...

it would be good to have more US citizens and companies move to mexico to take advantage of cheaper labour and production costs. this would help to move wealth and resources to that nation, which in turn helps to reduce migration and reasons for migration.

american companies can help to bring sanity to that nation through increased commerce and relationship with it.
