Did you like it?

I love the book rebecca, and someone suggested that i read the sequel also. Well i did and i must say it spoiled the pleasure for the original also. inspite of being touted as a book for anyone who dreams to go back to manderley, it's just so ordinary and run of the mill, such a let down. what do you think?

kakapobirdthing: the sequel was not written by de maurier.....and i agree with you it is insulting for anyone other than the original author to write a sequel...especially a crappy sequel.

It sounds like the sequel wasn't written by Du Maurier. I find it very insulting when publishers and writers do this. A sequel can only be written by the original author; anything else is a form of plagiarism. Du Maurier is a genius.

I love the book (and movie) "Rebecca, too, but have not read the sequel. I probably will eventually but it has not been at the top of my list because I had been so disappointed with the "Scarlet", the sequel to "Gone With the Wind."
It is kind of like when you go see a great movie, but when they make sequels they are never quite as good as the original in most cases.
Thanks for the warning!

The only thing I remember about the sequel is being disappointed by the time I was done reading it. I honestly can't remember what it was about the book that I didn't enjoy. The book just seems so forgettable to me unlike the original book 'Rebecca.'
