If the Red Sox get swept 5-0 or lose this series 4-1 and then end up missing the playoffs, Ortiz has no business winning the MVP. Right or wrong?

thats gay, just cause red sox might miss the playoffs, that shouldnt affect ortiz he haas 43 hr, nd like 110+ rbis, if he has good numbas in the power catagories, than why not? People say Jeter should be the MVP... WHY? sure he's a good fielder but seriously, MVP is normally won by power hitting sluggers, Jeter has what.. 10 homeruns? and his career high is 24, most mvp's pas that by the all start break. so Ortiz should be the MVP for the AL, i can't really think of anyone better in the AL, the only people that really come close is Jim Thome, and Travis Hafner and oh yeah they're DHs, Jim Thome should win AL comeback player of the year and Ortiz should be MVP... nuff said

No. Ortiz will win the MVP. He is the best player in a terrible team. His team won't make it to the playoffs, but the Sox will be remembered for having the 2006 AL MVP on their team.

Ortiz might be the most dangerous hitter in the league but I just can't put him up for MVP. The candidate must have more overall skills and stats.
The Sox season is not over if they lose this series. Still have five or so weeks and plenty of time to make up the ground.

As a DH not in ordinary words does his offense could be extra constructive than anybody else contained in the entire American League. yet his offense should be a good purchase extra constructive than anybody contained in the american League. he's one in each of the great seize hitter in baseball. If I had to chosen one individual with the game on the line to placed on the plate, i'd chosen huge Papi in a heartbeat, unfortunatley baseball writers hate to grant the award to a DH. Who knows even with the undeniable fact that? The morons gave Ryan Howard the award purely because he hit a gazillion homeruns more effective than anybody else. i'm a Cub fan who feels Albert Pujols were given the raw end of the deal. His crew made the playoffs, received the championship, and Howard receives the award even as his crew is really over .500. because the award is now not given to the "maximum powerful participant" Ortiz is likewise at a disadvatage.

Ok for you people saying no it shouldn't be Ortiz it should be Pujols, Beltran, Wright, etc. you are retarded. They are in the National League, Ortiz is in the American League, so come up with some other people to support your opinion. And who cares if Ortiz doesn't play the field. M.V.P. stands for MOST VALUABLE PLAYER, not MOST VALUABLE PLAYER WHO PLAYS IN THE FIELD.

Correct, usually an MVP should not just be able to put up big numbers, but shuould be able to help out your team and bring them into the playoffs. I mean, whats the use of being MVP when you cant take your team into the playoffs?

most feared clutch hitter in baseball dosen't play the field. he is his teams mvp not league .im not biased being from new york but u would have to consider jeter while hes not the best fielder in the world, for what he brings to the table, he's the mvp

i htink the mvp will be based on who carries their team to the playoffs. it can be papi or jeter. both have been pretty much shut down so far in the yankees-red sox seiers so we'll see
