i think the main reason for the problem is over the top political correctness.you cant say anything anymore without someone saying they are offended by it.i find it is ridiculous.in cases of something clearly being comedy for instance people cant hack it.what is happening.if people dont give their own opinions how are we to grow as people.are we just to believe whatever everyone else says and not question anything incase it offends someone.thats the way it seems to me.i dont like the way so much is now becoming taboo

Gift and a Curse. I think freedom of speech is the reason this war is going on as long as it is. (beside the obvious reason..GWB). Every time, someone gets on T.V and say something in opposition to the war, it takes us a couple steps back. It's gives hope to that poor Middle eastern who was debating whether he should take up arms against the U.S or sit and wait to see the outcome. But, it also allow us as American to address urgent problems and makes us the envy of the world. How many place in the world can you say F**K the leader on national TV...Lol. Funny, but sad. I personally think freedom of speech should be limited to criteria because as you see we as American get out control and it makes us looks bad as a whole. "A house divided against itself will never stand" -?? I just hope people use their own brains before 9/11 happens again.

Freedom of speech not only means the freedom to say something, but also the freedom to to say you're offended by it, and the freedom to complain about it, and the freedom to disagree or have a different opinion. Nothing is taboo! It's just that more people are complaining about what other people say. Freedom of speech is still going stronger than ever! I mourn the loss of freedom of discussion, of exchanging ideas without accusation or blame, the death of civil discourse.

I worked in a health care intitution. Most of our instructions or everyday work involved reading or speaking English. Foreigners who worked there didn't understand English. It caused problems, where I had to do jobs for people. I complained it's not fair to American citizens, but they continued to give me written or verbal warnings. Eventually due to a problem I had with not bering able to punch out, I was fired after almost 10 years. I think it is reverse racism.I speak and read and right English, but had no on-the-job nor civil rights to complain that many foriegners simply couldn't do the job in my work place. It's a shame when our our citizens get fired because we KNOW English and can do our jobs, isn't it?

It's called a way to make the government take control of EVERYTHING!!!
Unlike so many Bush-bashers on here; I don't believe that this is any one persons fault...I think this has been a long time coming and that they were smart about it and did it gradually and now people are starting to notice it (some people), but now no one can do anything about it.

For my self, I limit my speech so I don't offend. However, speaking the truth is important. I think freedoms also have responsibilities attached to them. Just because your free to speak doesn't mean that you should. If someones speech offends me, I leave or just ignore them.

People seem to have lost sight of the fact that their calling for someone to be censored means that THEY can be cnesored as well - it's a lack of thought. If you demand that soemone cannot say what they want, even if what they say is offensive to you, then YOU can be silenced as well at someone else's whim.

you should say what you want but not to violate others rights. people blow freedom of speech out of porportion. it's all about what you can say and what cannot say. some go over board with it. some have the common sense to know there are limitations.
