if someone appears to like you because you because they are stirring your tea, and the reality is they are stirring poison into the tea, it should be clear which is more important.

Sadly, in most situations, appearance is more important.

Why? Because many people make judgments and assume reality without ever looking past those surface appearances. So, for most things, if the appearance says one thing and the reality is different, you're going to be judged based on the appearance.

It shouldn't be that way, because appearance is subjective. What something looks like has much more to do with the observer than it does the underlying reality. Decades of psychological research have shown that.

So, while reality may be more important to some of us, too often the reality is secondary to whatever conclusions people have jumped to based on appearance. So, in the field, appearance wins more often.

Reality. Apperance is an illusion. Reality is what will keep you sane.

You get caught up in apperance, you will be just another socalite meandering through the world, trying to escape the fedralis and paparrazi.

At least with reality, it keeps you humble, keeps you pure, and most importantly, keeps you real.
