The story where the son killed the whole family is true, he said he heard voices in his head telling him to do it.

I grew up on Long Island, not far from Amityville, when all this crap started about the son hearing voices. The killing was apparently true, however all the haunted house shite, is a complete farce. I saw the original movie at the drive-in in Coram, Long Island. And then went to amityville to see the house, and get a picture. And this part is true, if I'm lying, I'm dying, the camera took a real grizzly picture of the house, and the rear end blew up in my dad's 74 impala on the Long Island Expressway on the way home. It was ******' scary at the time. My sister was shitting gold bricks...too funny

It was based on true events. Read the book instead of the movie.
Movies take theatrical license with facts of any situation and make them more dramatic and eventful.

p.s. How indicative of a suburban, middle-class, white family - totally ignorant.
If ONE of those events happened while I was living there, I'd have been down the road in a heartbeat.

I's supposed to be a true story, but I really doubt it happened because the people who bought the house after the Lutz's moved out never had any problems.

Yes, it was based on a true story out on Long Island,(NY). Years later they said it was a hoax, but the people that lived there claim it was true.

Supposedly. But it could have been a way to make money or get out of a house payment they couldn't afford.
