the famous rock band queen, did not replace freddy mercury, or continued touring, after he died at a young age of 45, does the fact that he was gay, or even bi-sexual, as he only would say some time, influence our admiration for freddy mercury's legendary talent ? if not gay, perhaps he wouldn't have contacted hiv ?

The fact that Freddy was gay does not change my views about his talent. He was a wonderful singer and great frontman. I'm angered and saddened when ANYONE dies because of poor life choices, whether it's unsafe sex, drug or alcohol addiction, food addiction, or any of the many things that have robbed the world of talented people.

I don't really care about Freddie's personal life, it's none of
my business! The thing is Freddie IS a LEGEND, one of the
best songwriters & musicians of 20th century, I love him!
You know I cried a lot when I realised that he'd died in 1991, because then I was 2 years old.
Still I love Queen music! It rocks!

The sexual orientation of any human is not a factor in determining their value to any given culture or society...
That being said, Freddy Mercury distinguished himself with a level of talent and creativity that is incredibly rare in this, or any other, epoch of the human experience.
Mercury succeeded in melding rock and roll ( in fact predominantly HEAVY rock and roll), with Opera!!!... Unheard of !!!
The man accomplished this with grace, style and an unprecedented level of showmanship. Anyone who ever saw Queen live would have to agree that Freddy Mercury was one of the greatest talents to have graced a stage.
To detract from this on the basis of sexual orientation is to do oneself a great disservice!!!

i could care less what sexual preference he was, his voice and stage presence were amazing, and his voice will never be replicated. maybe if he wasnt gay, he wouldnt have contracted HIV, but he still may have. i'm sure he was around ppl that used drugs, and may have gotten in that way as well. theres no way of knowing.

and i do have to say that paul rodgers is doing a really good job with queen, but even he says that he's not replacing freddie.

Who cares if he was gay or not? Queen was an incredible band! It is horrible that he died. Maybe he would not have contracted HIV if he was straight, but he could have just as easily caught it from a woman. That stuff doesn't affect my opinion of them at all.

None of that matters... he was an extremely talented musician and artist. I don't give a rat's behind what his sexual orientation was. As long as he entertained, that's all that matters.

If he wasn't gay, perhaps he wouldn't have contracted HIV... but he WAS gay and he DID, so there's no point in supposing anything.

It doesn't bother me completely. It makes me think about some of their songs and who they might have been meant for, but that's about it. Another band, Judas Priest, had a gay lead singer but I still love their music.

I'm not really sure what you are asking or what point you are trying to make. It didn't make any difference to how much I admired him, and I think it's a fitting tribute to him that Queen didn't replace him or carry on touring after he died. He was irreplaceable anyway.

He was awsome. I think I'll run off and get some Queen to listen to at the library.
