The problem here is that few westerners (myself included) know enough about Indian customs to know which might be benficial in western society. Nominations are invited.

How about the whole world start a new custom of getting along and not try to change everyone.. I am rather curious about what customs you feel should be adopted? Or what western customs should the Indians adopt?

I am not directly answering your question. I can not pin point any one thing
Some people said about joint families(living with parents) , Some about harmony between different religions, reverence to nature etc. Its all well and good.
I guess its a personal choice and preference . For customs of a region are directly related with culture. And not that easy to adopt . It may not suit others either. For example Joint family is not just living with your parents. A joint family acts like a trust and has its own way of operating.
But I read some of your other questions. You in general seem to be intersted in a wider knowledge about the region.

if you are referring to the late American Indians then I would like to adopt their custom of taking care of their elderly. Here in America our elderly are just more or less pushed away and not treated as well as they should

Assuming so, we should adopt more of a respect for nature and animals. We should adopt more peaceful philosophies about life and others, more of a respect for our elders, and partake of the peace pipe more often! ;)

ABOUT FAMILY....AND ITS IMPORTANCE.....
ABOUT RESPECTING PARENTS...taking care of them in oldage...living with them..not leaving them..
about marriage as an institution of trust,life with some adjustment and not devorcing every 9months...
ABOUT PREMARITAL SEX...STILL Many indians don't have sex before marriage...
about eating habits....we dont eat packed and frozen food..but homemade..you should try it sumday at some indian friend's place...
ABOUT PARENTHOOD...
about covering yourself..not just getting nude for anything and everything.....thats what we think about the westerners coz that what we see on tv and net....no **** site is run from india....
