I joined yesterday and we had a warm up of a mile and then did like 10 laps and a cool down of a mile again. I was surprised at how out of breath I got. I had to take alot of breaks because although I wanted to keep going I just couldn't. Today my thighs are so sore. If it wasn't for the support I got I probably would have left but I don't want to quit. Any advice to getting better?

I started cross country when i was in 6th grade and in the begging of the season i had no idea that i had to train, i just figured i would get in to shape during practice. But the truth is .....i was WAY wrong! a major thing in long distance running isnthat you always need to stretch prperlly. If you do not strentch enough then by the end of the race you will be a hurten! and also a good thing to keep in mind is that you also need to no the right way to breath. it will help ALOT when you start breathing correctly/ i took of atleas 1:35 of my time when i started breathing right. and a good drink to have is gatorade but depending on the length of the race you are running you should dilote it . so empty have of the gatorade bottle and put water in the other half. "it takes a while to get used to " and NEVER EVA EVA EVA THINK ABOUT stoping . it is one of the worst things you can do ! that just slows you down
...alot,,, so always keep in mind that you will be done and that you are being chased by a wild gorilla so run your butt of!
but also make sure to pase yourself once you start running more you will figure out what type of runner you are and you will be able to determin exactly what you can do and how fast you should do it .and also at the end of the race you take out allllllllll of the energy you have to get to that finnish line!!!

well best of luck this season!!!<3
you will do awesome .

Keep practicing, you'll get in better shape, and you will be able to go the distance. It's still fresh in the season. Oh, and listen to your coach.
