it is really fun! The beginning is the absolute best! You'll meet some people, learn about the different groups/acitivities on campus. About all the diff clubs you can join. About your major and what classes you should take to reach your goal. Where everything is on campus etc. You'll leave orientation with a crap load of stuff.
Good Luck!

My college orientation covered a variety of things/ campus life, finanancial information, registration for classes, and safety issues, It was a lot of fun overall bc the school planned fun activities during the orientation so it wasn't just lecturing on college. I got to know a few people as well =) Good luck!

PS: and living in a dorm was great.( aside from a few noise issues) I made most of my college friends through campus housing!

It varies depending on the school. I went to a major state university. We had sessions in the dorm on financial aid, university related resources, etc. These were not mandatory. I went to a few. I would suggest you get to know your roommate and suite or hall mates. Explore campus, buy your books, and find out where your classes are located. Try to search your professors' website and see if you can find syllabi for your classes. This gives you a leg up on when assignments are due.

Your residence hall advisor (RA) can help.

There were also a lot of parties at the frats and sororities in advance of rush week. Even if you don't drink then go out and have fun and meet people. Also, dorms crack down on underage drinking at the beginning of school, so be discreet if you drink in the dorm until about October.

It's going to be really long. The best thing you can do to help yourself become aquainted with campus is finding an upperclassman who can show you around and answer any questions. But hopefully during orientation you'll get free food.

You just learn about the campus, facilities, campus rules, areas around campus to go to, the different tools at your disposal (library, etc.), where to go for what kind of help, etc etc etc what you would expect, i guess. And you get to know other people.
