You know, I didn't like any of the books I was forced to read while I was reading them. But I was able to figure out afterwards which ones were actually good books. This wasn't one of them. It sucked.

It's not the most fast-paced book at the beginning, but it is really a good book. It has so many levels to it. It can be read as a simple adventure story, a criticism of the "noble savage" theory, a religious allegory, etc., etc.!

OK is this your homework and you have to write about it.
Well, it's about survival. To survive we have to have a leader, but not everyone agrees who the leader should be, so we break up into groups and we do some rotten things because law and order is no longer in existence. This is what the book points out.
Is that any clearer for you?

I had to read it for freshman year and I thought it was a total bore. We ended up watching the movie and it wasn't all that great. Probably one of the worst books I've read. But hey that's just me.

The movie sucked worse, but the book had lots of symbolism and is appropriatley suited for junior high students in english class.

A very profound opinion "totally sucked." I would counter by suggesting that you take a moment to consider the cultural relevance of that story and its theme throughout the twentieth and twenty-first century. A couple of easy examples: "Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome," and "Friday the 13th." Discuss among yourselves.

Lord of the Flies is one of the great works of literature.
It is about an uncommon topic, but the writing is superb. A definite must for any serious reader.

I had to read it way back when I was in school and thought it was a very thought provoking book.

I think it is brilliant. The story is a great study about social norms, human behaviours and survival. William Golding is a genius.
