I was always taught to drive (automatic) w/ my right foot only, switching from brake to gas. I just drove w/ someone who says they use their left foot for brake, do you?

I only use my left foot at all when I'm driving a stick shift. Thanks.

NO, the reason being is because if you were to do a panic stop you intiall response is to step on the brake and gas at the same time and you would power right through the accident, now if you brake with your right foot there is less of a chance of this happening, just my opinion. and if you use your left foot on the brake when driving a stick what foot is on the clutch ???

People who learn to drive a stick first tend to use the left foot for the brake as a habit from having to work the clutch. I do it all the time as a result of learning to drive farm trucks with manual transmissions before driving automatics.

I have a friend that does that too. He's been doing it for decades and even in panic stops, his brain is wired to know which pedal to push. He claims faster response time. Which I can see if you actually have to take your right foot off the gas pedal, but the brain has to be wired to do this.

Many people have problems, and in a panic might accidentally step harder on the gas pedal.

I guess it's up to the individual. My friend claims in a panic he knows and applies pressure to the left foot, thus preventing ever mistakenly stepping on the gas.

Never! Although if you're driving "standard" your left foot is ready on the break!
