Goofy is actually not a dog as many believe.
He is only part dog. The other half that makes up his character is actually goat.
In an experiment done by the Disney Corp. to create new exciting animals to add to their "Magical Kingdom" they started mixing species of animals together so that they could have something that couldn't be found at a regular zoo....custom made animals!
Very few of these experiments survived and eventually the experiment was abandoned for better things like Space Mountain.

In rememberance of the experiments and the folly of playing with DNA, the character 'Goofy' was introduced. His given name and looks were in direct relation to the original program....the looks of the hybrid animals and the goofiness of it all.
