After my computer has been turned on, everything works fine. After a couple of hours, everything works except my keyboard, keeping me from being able to type anything. I have to restart my computer in order for it to work again. But it is a recurring problem. The keyboard is a standard keyboard hooked into the back of my computer in the "keyboard" slot.

Your keyboard driver file is hanging up. Possibly due to your settings. Check system settings/keyboard/keyboard drivers. You may have to roll over the driver or reload the driver. These drivers are found pretty much anywhere on the internet.

If it is an USB keyboard, may be you are connecting it through a USB hub that is not enough powered. Instaed of rebooting the PC, you can just unplug the USB keyboard and plug it back in, then it will works fine.
Try to connect that USB keyboard directly to the USB plug that ends at the computer mainboard.
if it still fail, try to update the drivers of both the keyboard and the USB controller - if any.
Some USB controller driver or keyboard driver may fail after the system resumed from sleep mode. So make sure there are no driver problem here.
Note: the driver failuer problems after system resumed from sleep mode also applied for some other devices.

If it's a standard, wired, PS2 keyboard, it may be a bad PS2 controller, perhaps becoming problematic after it gets too hot. I can't be sure. Which is bad because it's attached to the motherboard itself. The only way to fix that is to replace the motherboard. Both costly, and a bit daunting, if you're not very computer savvy.

The alternative would probably be to get a wireless keyboard.

More than likely it's a problem with your keyboard.

There are some Malware that will turn off the keyboard or prevent them from functioning propersly. Run your AV and AS programs. Also go here and run an online scan. Sometime this one will find stuff your programs will not.

If it is an USB keyboard is it running off a hub or plugged directly into the computer. The hub could be underpowered and the computer loses track of it.
