Its not thepoint of stealing pens,they can afford to replace them,but so often folks don't have pens along,or are digging around in their purses or pockets to find one,this way you know there is one there.And as far as doors being open,they are only open during business ours.

you can steal a pen and even if they catch you, you can say, "I'm sorry! even if you are not" but ifyou get caught while trying to rob a bank, you don't need to say sorry, you will be.
