I find that in circumstances where I have had to rinse my lenses in tap water, that they feel dry and uncomfortable to put in my eyes. Saline or similar lens solutions are made to be like your tears, and they add moisture to the eyes surface. I also think from the material that your lenses are made of that the water itself does not adhere to the lens and add moisture. Again, the way solutions for contact lenses are made, they are designed that the lens can absorb the moisture. In addition, there may be other elements in the tapwater which may create eye infection or at least irritate the eye.

Your eyes need a special balance of salt and other nutrients. Tap water alone doesn't have this balance. Also you may make your self more prone to infection with bacteria that may be there in the water. So this is why saline solution was made.

it isnt a bad thing to use tap water because i have before but the only thing is that there is bacteria in tap water that can harm your eyes. it is best to use solution which is what eye doctors recommend. if you do use tap water do not use it as your everyday source for cleansing your contacts. use the solution regularly and the tap water rarely.

it's not because they harm the contacts. First of all, water wll not clean them as well because lots of bacteria resides in water and can grow there easily. Also, bacteria in your eye is not very good. Water will also sting your eyes like crazy. If your contacts get washed in water and you put them in, it will hurt a lot. Disinfectant liquid stuff for contacts doesn't sting and keeps your contacts very cleasn.

There are chemicals added to water by the city to make it safe for human cosumption. The chemicals can damage your contacts by pitting them or make them more prone to tearing.
The cleanser you use kills of the bacteria on the lenses (tap water or bottled water can't do that) and prevents your eyes from getting infected.

via fact we had two hundred feet of latest 2" copper line put in to deliver the faucet water to our abode, we put in a extensive carbon block filter out to get rid of any copper, lead, or different metals from our water. It additionally bumped off each and all of the chlorine, chloramine, odors, off-tastes, and colours from the faucet water. we've crammed up tanks changing over 0.5 of the water on rift lake cichlids which like enormous water adjustments with none chlorine removers mandatory, and had no issues, different than having to strengthen a lot of barbeque. inspite of a pair thousand gallons of water in fish tanks, and greater out interior the goldfish ponds, it filters each and every drop of water interior the abode and for fish water adjustments. It lasts 3 months or longer on the quantity of water this suggests. sooner or later i replaced into refilling a one hundred twenty five gallon tank and a few thing befell distracting me. while i eventually decrease back to the tank, it were overflowing for an hour and the water replaced into on the brink of a hundred% replaced. no longer something in any respect befell to the fish. They have been high quality. luckily it replaced right into a concrete floor and there replaced right into a drain interior the middle of the room.

i'd think because regular tap water isn't clean enough for your eyes to be soaked in. contact lens solution helps take away protein residue (for reasons i frankly don't know). i don't think it's because water damages the lenses, but rather to your eyes
