I'm also not big on tattoos, but I have one.
I have a tattoo to mark a special occasion, my college graduation. I'm an electronic engineer so my bunch of friends and I decided to get the IEEE transistor symbol (NPN if you were wondering) tattooed to commemorate our passing through some very tough times and demanding studies. The universal symbol was the only constant, everyone got to choose where and how large or small they wanted it. So I got it small sized and in the back of my neck, the nape of my neck actually, which my hair covers.
That's the only reason that I see fit for people to get tattoos, since you'll live with them forever and they're a very personal statement, so butterflies in the almost-butt zone or roses in the ankle are tacky and cheap looking.

Tattoos are okay, if you get one to remember or honor someone close to you I totally understand. But if you get a silly that has no connection to you then it looks really yucky. Plus if you want a tattoo get an airbrush or rub on that way you can change it up and wash it off it you need to.

I don't like them either. Maybe if you could wash them off or something, I wouldn't mind them so much, but picturing someone as an old lady with a butterfly tattooed on her lower back is not appealing at all.

there's a distinction between "type" and "trend," i think of. "trend," via DEFINITION adjustments constantly; issues are "in" and "out." Theart of tattooing itself isn't a fashion. yet why are human beings afraid to admit that tattooing, on one point, is going via a era the place it rather is sought after? i think of the poster made a goof via bringing "Maori" into this. yet that aside-- Did Pamela Anderson's mom...or any of her pals' mothers...get a barbwire armband? Nope; it wasn't in trend. So are the contrived (no longer cultural) "tribal" tattoos nevertheless in trend? it seems to me no....yet who's often used with?--possibly in 2 a protracted time they are going to be "unfashionable", ha ha

i guess it's "cool" that you could endure the pain, but at the same time, where the tatoo is located on your body is a fashion. one year, it was all the rage to have a tatoo around the ankle area, then the lower back, behind the neck, etc...

isn't that the same thing? people want to be in fashion because it's cool?
I say in whatever situation do what makes you feel good (and won't regret), no matter if it's "cool" or not.

They r stupid, not only can they cause serious medical issues, like in a few cases I've heard of it caused enternal bleeding, but when you're old and wrinkly they look even more stupid and it costs a lot to get them removed.
