You surely need 2 PCs for both of you. How does the Internet link gets to your house - by DSL or some wireless Internet link? If yes, then: equipment the 2 PC with Wireless LAN adapters (PCI, USB or PCMCIA if laptop). Buy a wireless router and connect to the DSL or the Wireless Bridge that brings Internet to your home. Most new wireless adapter will automatically detect the wireless router and gain access to the internet BUT you may need a techie to assit you configure the router or to give you necessary guide. (you may email me if you need further support).
Alternatively, connect a UTP (cat5) cable between the DSL and the first PC. Install a 2nd LAN card on the same PC. Configure the PC to do IP Sharing. WinXP and 2k do this so well. (if you need more info pls email me). Now connect a cross cable (UTP Cat5) between the 2nd LAN card in the 1st PC to your daughter (2nd) PC in the house. You need minimal configuration on the 2nd PC - if you created config diskette during the IP Sharing configuration of the 1st PC - just use that in the 2nd PC to autocongure the PC for Internet access.

You will need a router and an ethernet card in each computer.
You plug both computers into the router, and it "routes" the information to each computer.
You can get a router for around $75.
Each network card is around $15. If you have fairly new computers... less than 2 years old... they probably already have cards in them.
Look on the back of the computer for a plug that looks like a telephone plug, only it's a little wider. That will be your ethernet port.
Fell free to send me an e-mail if you have any more questions about it.
Good luck

Hello there! I'm not an expert but I do know that the easiest way of getting around this obstacle is to get yourself a broadband connection instead of dial up. That is unless your country or region doesn't provide that service. Broadband provides a lot more benefits like using internet at higher speeds and not have an engaged phone line.
Back to the question at hand: get broadband connection and then a router. This way you can connect more than one PC onto the net.
It's cool. Read about Routers.
Cheers!!

I believe you would need two computers / internet ready devices, and a modem that is accessible to both computers. Either dial up (often too slow to download photos and files), or cable modems for both computers if they are in different rooms- or you could use a modem and a wireless router that is installed on both computers. If using wireless the computers might need to be networked if they are in different rooms. (I'm not a computer expert). Your computer manual or online support for your computer would be able to tell you more about this.

Het a Hub, a cheap one will do, a 4 port one and 2 sets of CAT5 cable with RJ45 heads on it.
just conect the hub to your modem, and each computer with the hub.

Hope this helps.
