I just inherited an old PC, windows 98, and I am techno-not, it is very slow, and all I can get here is dial-up service, it seems the more I try to fix any problems, I create more. So I need a talented, very informed, experienced mentor to guide me on computer issues, can you help?

Computer Slow

Download and then run startup.exe (FREEWARE) at:

http://www.mlin.net/startupcpl.shtml......

Can't live without it and windows...

Then disable and/or uninstall whatever u don't need.

Other things to try:

1 - Disk Cleanup (removal of temp files, cookies, etc.)
2 - Defrag
3 - Registry Cleanup (CAN BE VERY RISKY!)

FROM A HARDWARE PERSPECTIVE THE BEST AND MOST COST EFFECTIVE POSSIBLE UPGRADE (IN GENERAL) IS THE ADDITION OF MORE MEMORY (RAM).

ALL ELSE FAILS - RELOAD YOUR O/S (WINDOWS) AND THEN REINSTALL ALL OTHER PROGRAMS YOU NEED/USE!

I use to have that computer but now I have a Dell, what you need to know first is that Dial-up isn't good and if you have internet you need internet safety programs like Spysweeper,AVG virus scanner just things to clean your PC from messing up and to make your PC better and faster,if you have dial-up internet it may go slower than ever and if your pc have a problem and you have safety programs then it may go fast trust me I had MSN dial-up and it went fast enough for me cuz my pc was protected but now I have bellsouth DSL internet, but all you need to know is dat PC need good care and you need to becareful not to make the slightest mistake because I remember my first PC I messed it up so bad dat we had to throw it away and buy a new one,the one I using now is my second PC and is now a Dell Windows XP Home Edition, and now I know my computer like da color of my hair but if you need to know anything else feel free to E-Mail me at ciaangel_angelgirl@yahoo.com :-) hope this helped you!!!!!!!!!!!
