I drove it one day and haven't driven it since for over 2years. I would like to get it back up and running. I am mechanically inclined but in no way a mechanic. I can do basic things with a book. Would like to save as much money as possible :) What would the best steps to prep the car to bring it to the mechanic? or should i just have it towed and let them do it all?

change the oil, drain the gas tank, put fresh gas in it. charge or replace the battery and then go for it. not really much else that can be done except rebuild the carb, replace the plugs and so on but try this first and pray

Check all fluid levels(brake master cylinder, power steering, radiator, engine oil and gear boxes). Auto or standard transmission? If Auto may want to do a a fluid and filter change on it. Differential(s) see if grease is a milky color may have some moisture if so drain and refill. Oil change and filter. Check air filter and air intake. May have had a mouse make a home in it depending on where is was a stored. Could have similar problem in the heat ducts as well. Charge battery up and have it load tested. Most parts stores will do that for free. Flush and refill cooling system. Check all hoses for dry rot and leaks. Tires may be dry rotted also. Don't just assume they are OK because the tread looks good. Look for cracks in the sidewalls and in the tread grooves. If cracks are deeper than a 1/8" or so you may want to consider some new tires. Grease all fittings you can find. Generally the steering, tie rods, ball joints, and drive line u-joints have fittings. If all of these things check out OK move on to tune up items such as spark plugs, rotor, distributor cap and plug wires if engine seems to be running poorly. Good luck!
