No. Not true. Interesting Internet question though. And yeah, there are all sorts of people living fantasy lives on the Internet, but they all lived those fantasy lives before the Internet existed.
I write comedy Science Fantasy Fiction, which existed long before the Internet existed. The Internet makes it easier for me to reach people with it.
There have always been people living fake lives. Always.
The Internet is about communication. So yeah, you are going to get people that cannot get fantasy separated from reality. And they communicate here.
But it is not the primary function of the place. Communication is communication.

People meet one another all over the world in every conceivable location. What they do from there depends intirely on them. People come here to ask and answer questions. Anything else they do is can be handled offline.

I believe there are places to "meet people" on the web, but I don't know where they are.
If you post stuff in order to meet people, and people use the Report Abuse link, yahoo will remove your posts. If you keep doing it, they will ban you from the site.

I don't "try" to make new friends. I don't e-mail anyone like a penpal.. It is Dangerous! They could be like a 50 year old stocker, and you are talking girl talk with him!

It is very fun, but I like to answer most the time....
