Monster , Yahoo Hotjobs, Careerbuilder are some of the largest job boards, where you can apply for jobs and upload your resume. Since Craigslist, allows free job postings, many smaller companies post their vacancies on this online classifieds website. You can also search for jobs from multiple websites using aggregators like SimplyHired and Indeed. Referrals are also becoming a increasingly popular way to get hired.

Do some research online.. For whatever state you think you might be happy in and go from there. Check out what the offers are as far as pay. Check out any complaints against the dept. You'll have to use a search engine (such as google) to find these answers, but that's the only way to start I believe. Other than calling all the police stations over the phone...but I bet that would be pretty expensive!
Good Luck! <~ fired my boss and works from home! No moving and no being told I cant do something :)

Almost any state will pay for you to go through an academy if you get hired with a department. Does he have a degree in Police Science or Criminal Justice? Many departments now require a degree, so that might be what's holding him up. I myself have a degree in Police Science and wanted to work locally in Wisconsin, but was never able to find a job since openings are so limited and the applicants are so many (we had 2 openings in a nearby city and over 2000 applicants applied for it).

I live in Arkansas. The way it works here, is that you are hired by a department, then they send you to the academy. You then are contracted to work for them for a set period of time. If you choose to quit or go on to another job, you must reimburse the dept for your training. You are also paid by the department while you attend the academy.
Now I am not suggesting that you move to Arkansas from Michigan. That could be culture shock in the worst way. But you may contact departments in the area you would like to live to see if they offer then same thing.

The only one I can think of is the Corpus Christi, Tx police dept...they have their own police academy that everyone must go thru when getting a job with them!!
We looked into them when my hubby was looking for a law enforcement job. We didn't end up going there....b/c he didn't want to go thru another academy.
Good luck!!!
Texas has plenty of law enforcement jobs!!!
