I had an interview with Bed, Bath, and Beyond on Tuesday, and they were looking for workers that can work during the graveyard shift. I didn't accept the job because I was hoping for a position for daytime. Now, I know it's professional to send a Thank-you letter to the business area you wanted to apply for a job position at, but should I send a thank you to Bed, Bath, and Beyond despite the fact that I rejected their job position?

You might leave a nice impression on them, and they might consider you again...for the shift you want! I say do it.

You might be surprised what that little effort can do for you.

I have heard stories from career counsellors of people that have sent a thank you letter after being turned down for a job and within 3 - 6 months have been offerd the job because the chosen candidate did not work out.

Why burn a bridge, they just may need someone for a dayshift in the future and you might want to reapply.

In my opinion, you should write a simple thank you letter and be courteous. The company wont feel like it has wasted time interviewing you and also writing to thank them may keep you in their consideration should the morning shift become available in the future. You could ask to be considered for future job openings as well. You just turn down an offer. Dont make it seems like you snubbed the company.

It wouldn't be a bad idea in case you ever want to apply there again.
You could also write in it that due to other obligations, you can't work the 3rd shift now, but would still be interested in working there if a daytime position ever came up.

I guess if you hope to have a job with them at some point in the future you could send a thank you letter that also asks them to keep you in mind should another position open up that meets your qualifications.

Its the right thing to do.
Be professional and leave a good impression.
Emphasize your interest in a day position. Remind the interviewer of you, your background etc.
Send a letter to the hiring manager or supervisor and to HR.

Yes! Thank them for considering you and tell them you would like to be contacted again if a daytime position becomes available.
