Ignorance, a lack of understanding plus unwillingness to learn about other people's cultures causes people to stereotype others

Essentially because cultures stereotype people, at least people from cultures we tend to stereotype.

Think of a person like a lump of clay. The culture that person is born into shapes the person... and the less educated and experiened the culture is, the more rigidly the shape is... since it continually reinforces itself. If a culture has a religion that is interwoven into it that further alienates personal exploration and expression that also narrows the range of a person's expression so that it become hard to differentiate one person in that culture from another in the culture.

This is very comfortable for those in the culture with limited intelligence and loads of fear of the unknown both in themselves and outside the culture. And those whose power comes from maintaining the status quo will demand that everyone adhere to what they can know with their limited experience... and these leaders will become intensely fearful of anyone or anything that might cause the controlled to wander or wonder.

That's why we sterotype the people of certain cultures.

As humans, we take the least effort way. And since getting to know other cultures takes a lot of time, we make our lives easier by accepting stereotypes.

your question is wrong.
stereotyping is when you apply a belief to an individual of a certain group from your generalizations about that group
forming a generalization about a culture is normal and important. the line is crossed, however, when you go from saying "many people from X behave Y" to saying "all people from X behave Y" or "If you are from X then you are definitely Y".

well it could because we get annoyed? for instance there's the stereotype that all asians drive slow. Have you met one that didn't? there's one that all indians have tissue boxes in their cars......could just be part of a uman thing. I dont think that there will ever be a real good answer to any WHY question.

Really it's just a generalization. There a Grey area's with every subject you can think of. Gives people something else to gripe about:-)
