John Dean, former Nixon counsel, explains in his new book (Conservative Without Conscience) that conservatives are much more likely to follow authoritarian leaders. Most of them love to follow a strong leader, right or wrong.
"There's no question that, particularly the followers, they're very aggressive in their effort to pursue and help their authority figure out or authority beliefs out. They will do what ever needs to be done in many regards. They will blindly follow. They stay loyal too long and this is the frightening part of it." They hate anyone that disagrees with them/their leader and that holds their group together.

I agree with mikis1967 on the second part to your question. On the first part about the conservatives in power now being unpatriotic or stupid, I think it is healthy to question their motives, as we should always question the motives behind any politician.
I think that if the intelligence in this country were where it needs to be, they would already know the individuals to be looking at, and I'm hoping this has improved greatly since 9/11. Whatever they need to do to keep innocent people from being blown to smithereens is fine, if they balance the intelligence with common sense.
Ooh, AnnQ has a good answer. I am going to read that book. It sounds like it explains the kind of political philosophy we all need to be wary of- now more than ever. We should all be more careful about how we think- or be sure that we do think.

Neither - it'd be nice when both sides of the aisle see terrorism for what it is.
It's a war, not some form of law enforcement action. We, as Western society are facing a fanatical enemy who isn't restrained
by political correctness. We, on both sides of the aisle, should have the same view on Islamofacism that our ancestors had toward the Axis powers of World War Two. Until we take that mindset, we will be handicapped in our efforts.
No amount of appeasement will work - it didn't work for Chamberlin when dealing with Hitler, and it won't work with our society and Islamic fundamentalism. Churchill is turning in his grave.

They are more unpatriotic than stupid, but it goes quite a bit deeper than that. The whole point of them nurturing terrorism is to create an atmosphere of fear, making the average joe less likely to raise much of a fuss when his freedoms are taken away, because they tell him it will make him safe. The abolishment of civil liberties is the primary goal. I guess patriotism doesn't really mean much to the conservitives in power, because their vision of "America" has nothing to do with the Constitution or the Bill of Rights. They love America because Exxon and Walmart and other bloodthirsty corperations keep offices here.

What freedom of yours is being suppressed? The freedom to talk to terrorists overseas secretly on the phone is the only freedom I know of that you may have lost.
Unless you are one of those people sending millions of dollars to terrorist organizations.

No, liberals are the ones doing this. I, as a conservative, disagree greatly with a lot of things Bush has done, but I do agree with him on lowering taxes (I like spending money myself), fighting this war (I sure as he|| want to fight this on someone else's ground, not mine), and being against abortion. I don't agree with him on some of the other legislation he's passed. Liberals on the other hand, would like to raise taxes to a point of socialism, with turns into communist, which turns into dictatorship. So, let me ask you this, if conservatives are trying to suppress your freedoms, who wants to take the right to have a gun away, Ted Kennedy or Dick Cheney?

Common people that declare themselves Republican ,are simply stupid and their patriotic behaviour is simply used by politics for dirty purposes.
You have to understand that the Usa cannot export democracy with bombs.
Democracy is not a commodity!!!!.
Please you have to repeat this message to that anthropomorphous monkey that you have as president because he is leading our countries and not only the Usa to a disaster.

they fear the terrorists. terrorism has beaten their minds. they are very week people. they are a sad group. they are the sheep. they are americans in french skins. dont hurt us please just take what you like and we will do what you say. they are the people you would find hiding in fox holes instead of using them for temporary cover. they are the first to wave the white flag, the first to surrender, the first ones to give in and the first ones to give up.

you have it backwards. The Lib's are nurturing terrorism with their "All we have to do is talk" mentality. All these people want is us dead. As for freedoms, I would rather have to take my shoe off at an airport than have someone scrape me off the ground.
