Hi guys,

I was wondering if the Hyundai Elantra is a reliable car.

I am talking about the models between 2003~2006.

Can you share your experiences?

Hyundai Elantra is reasonably reliable...but the overall quality of components is not as good as other makes. Kind of like GM was in the 80s-mid 90s...Where the door handle was always falling off...the vents would break regularly...annoying. BUT still mechanically reliable.

Depreciation is HORRIBLE still on the Korean Cars...So you should be able to buy an 03 for about 25% of what it cost new.

Personally??? I think that the Ford Focus is a MUCH BETTER compact car than the Hyundai. I think you should at least go drive a Focus before you decide to purchase anything else. The Focus was on Car and Drivers 10 best list for 5 years in a row...And was consistently on the Editors Choice List on Edmunds.com. I currently drive a Ford Escort Wagon that has been very reliable and efficient and plan on purchasing a used Focus Wagon when my Escort eventually dies...Good Luck!

My sister in law had one. It was pretty much a piece of crap. She traded in it for a Honda and is happy with it ....
