I personally play at KGS since there are a lot of beginners and people usually help you to get better, but IGS is more popular.
You should avoid playing on yahoo. People leave games when you are winning, people cheat, and the rating system is terrible compared to IGS or KGS.
Also on KGS and IGS you could watch other people compete and sometimes people broadcast live cames from professional tournaments.
