well, a combo fertilizer is a waste of money....you need to do it when it is damp and then you need to hope that the granules actually stick to the weeds..

but if you insist on doing that, then i would wait until fall (or at least when the temperatures are not high and the nights are cool and the rain has resumed).

If you would do it now, the nitrogen would certainly burn the lawn (and so could the weed control) and without water and won't do any good.

The best thing to do if you want to do it yourself is to just buy a fertilizer (no weed control mixed in) and fertilize the lawn (once the temps are lower as said prior) and buy a selective herbicide (Trimec is a professional one easily purchased at a Co-Op or Ag Center or you can buy an Ortho product) and treat the weeds that you see.

you will minimize the amount of herbicides that are used on your lawn (much more healthier for you, kids and animals) and it will be more effective than hoping that the weed control granules stick to the broadleaf weeds...

good luck

you could but, ask yourself why are weeds growing in the lawn? it could be to do with light , drainage, acidity, or lack of feed, if you solve the cause first the grasses will be able to hold there own.
The trouble is , trying to find the cause is hard !
remember that its always better to use separate feed and weedkiller, why, well if you feed your lawn then leave it for 2-3 weeks, the weeds will start growing faster & when they do that, a weedkiller is way more effective. always make sure the soil is moist to a good depth and the leaves are dry when applying chemicals

I woud not do it while the weather is too hot and dry or the grass will just burn. The best time to do it is April/May.
