That's a fair question.

First one needs to break it down into Reviews and Critiques.

A review is simply an overview of the movie describing it's content, back story, box office etc.

A critique is usually pretty tough and measures the movie as an "art form" and often references others movies or the director's past work.
All art forms need to have critics, it's the feedback that makes the art legit in it's field.

My favorite movie critic? Yahoo's Movie Mom -- I think her reviews are spot on! She's really good and smart and fair.

To give us an early warning about horrible movies and make good movies sound worse then they really are. You know the so-called box office slump? i think the critics giving false reports about good movies may have chased a lot of people away from the theatres.

I don't care for them either but some people like others opinions on movies. Sometimes I like movies the critics don't praise and sometimes I do.

To tell us why exactly we should go see a movie...I normally do the opposite of what the critics say...and haven't been disappointed yet!!

They don't all agree with themselves. Find one who you agree with a lot, and you can trust his judgement on future films rather than waste $10 seeing a turkey.

I don't agree with some of them. But I like to hear their reviews of films before I see them.If alot of them are saying a film stinks than it probably does.

I AGREE WITH YOU TTOO. I THINK IT IS JUST A JOB FOR SOMEONE TO FILL. I KNOW THEY HAVE NO TASTE IF THEY SAY A MOVIE ISN'T GOOD IT IS AND IF THEY SAY A MOVIE GOOD IT ISN'T.. I WISH I WAS A MOVIE CRITIC.

Well, I don't mind finding out a movie sucks BEFORE I pay $10 on a ticket....

Well, see, there's your point.. If we didn't have them panning movies and telling us how awful they are, we wouldn't know which ones to go see.. and, when they tell us they're good, wellll, maybe yes, maybe no! then we have to rely on our friends..
As for me, I just go see what I want to see, and, if the critic actually got it right, well, goody for him/her. otherwise, it's seeeee, told ya soooo.. LOL
