I'm poor, I'm picked on, my father and mother are divorced, my teachers gave up on me...THAT is why I killed my friend for giving my inferior crack.

What happened to PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY? It seems like we have lost all traces of it. I want it back!

lostlally - the comment below my question is not me! I am a 44 year old Mom who thinks people should take reaponsiblity for their bad behavior and stop blaming society.
That was just a typical criminal comment when caught.

No they don't have the right. I Just think that they may blame society so thathey can get a lighter sentence. They will probably do that because they know that nowadays criminal law judges will buy anything.

Iam a law student and I know that in a court room there is more sympathy for the criminal than there is for the victim.

The only blame society should take is that it keeps on petting criminals ,givin' them sentences that are too light, and actualy
accepting their excuses.

Personal Responsibility went by the way side when the crooked lawyers and the paid off judges took over our court system.

From personal experience with our legal system today I can tell you it is the innocents that pay for the crimes being committed because there are too many loop-holes to be found.

It's going to come to a point in our society that "Average Joe" is going to take the law into their own hands because the cops are in it for the pay off, the lawyers are only there for the big bucks and the judges aren't sitting on the bench for justice but for personal gain.

And as for your question, the media has armed all these people with excuses as to ways of getting out of their predicaments. What with all the Oprah's, Dr. Phil's, Geraldo's and Maury's on the TV any more the general public has quite a few reasons to "Break the Law" and blame others.

Family environment plays a big role in a criminal's life. We as a civilized society must accept the moral obligation to reach out to children trying to survive in violent abusive families. To ignore it and scream personal responsibility today will force us to face these forgotten children's anger and rage tomorrow.

I don't believe anyone has the right to blame anyone else for THEIR actions. Regardless of what is done to you, it is YOUR decision, as an individual, what you will do about it. Another person may do something to cause you to want to make a bad choice in regards to a response, but it is a CHOICE.

I think they can try to make things better for themselves despite the negative situations they are in. They shouldn't blame the society for their actions because they should take responsibility for their own actions ....

Most criminal behavior is caused by desparation. Give them hope for their future and their kids future and you can eliminate a lot of crime.

I agree with you on the personal responsibility bit, but it doesn't solve the larger problems.

If you were raised in a family that killed people for doing things against them from the time you were born, I could see the defense. Anything else, no.
