You first make the addition in the parentheses, than the multiplying in the brackets and finally you divide:
288 / [3(9+3)] = 288 / (3*12) = 288 / 36 = 8

= 288 / [3 * (12)]
= 288 / 36
= 8
"Order of Operations"
Do the inner parentheses '( )' first, even though it's addition: so 9 + 3 = 12.
Next do the Multiplication inside the brackets '[ ]'; which is now 3 * 12 = 36.
Divide 288 by 36 = 8.
Hope that helps.

I think you should work out whats inside the brackets first so you have [3(12)] or 36 so 288 divided by 36 = 8
I'm no math whiz so I apologize if I'm incorrect.
