everyone's cycle is different. plus ur body is new at this, so u might not see a pattern at first. some women will always be somewhat irregular...some r very regular. u just have to wait and see. always mark ur calendar. also i get warning signs before mine...it's very subtle...like a very light crampy feeling.
i like always pads...dry weave + wings r very good features. however i'm thinking of trying out the stay-free new brand...extra-absorbable (with wings & weave)? in the past stay-free was definitely not good (everything stayed on top! yuck!)...i'll see with this new pad. the weave helps the pad feel less soggy and if u r active/move around a lot then the wings will catch the drops going towards the edges. consider buying different types of pads (super absorbant/long ones for night, regular ones, small/thin ones as u r ending ur period). change ur pad at least 3 times a day, otherwise u'll set urself up for fungal/yeast infections...u'll know if u got it, because u'll start to feel itchy.
no pad will feel good in the water. u can only use tampons for that. careful with tampons...some girls forget they're in there and don't change it often enough...which may cause infections. (toxic shock syndrome)

Ok honey calm down. First of all it's not gross so don't worry, second of all these are great questions for your mom or big sis. Anyway, don't worry about it being a day off or anything your body is going through one of it's first major changes and is going to take a little time adjusting to. Expect it to come once a month, around a months time from your last period, it normally will last 5-7 days, and will be heavy in the first few days and start to lighten up after that. Now unfortunately you can not go in the water with any pads, but when you are comfortable to try and learn, get tampons. Since you are new at this, make sure you get an applicator with plastic, not cardboard or it will really hurt you. I recommend Tampax Pearl or Kotex tampons, and Kotex is also wonderful for pads. You will need to figure out the sizes and stuff on your own though, but since you will be going to school be careful and try and keep track of when it is coming (cramps, etc...) If you are not use to tampons yet, try to be, if not use a pad with extra protection and can cover the majority of your underwear. Good Luck hun, and remember were all in it together!

Are you sexually active? If you are, and have not used any form of protection, you need to see a doctor immediately. And to answer your question about what type of pad to use, this is strictly up to you. Everyone has their own comfort zone when it comes to choosing what to wear during their periods. And, no, I don't think that you can use pads while swimming and/or being in water because the cotton in your pad will absorb the water and it can squeeze the blood out, which is not very healthy....especially for other swimmers. The only thing that you should use while on your period and swimming are tampons. The other best option that I can give to you is to visit www.beinggirl.com. This site was meant for young female teens. I've been on it, and it mainly talks about sex and periods, it's a really great site to learn things about your body.

ok, dont worry abt that ur period is irregular b/c it is common for period to be irregular your first year.(it happens to every1, so dont freak out even u miss a few). 4 the best pads, u might have 2 experiment with different pads 2 c which one works 4 the best. But i normally reccomend Always, Stayfree, or Kotex. and in order 3 go to the water, u hav 2 use tampons. Remember every girl was 2 go throu this process in life, dont b embarrased about it, you'll get used it in no time.

A lot of girls don't have their period regularly... every 28 days. It varies, especially when you've just started having your period. Some girls get cramps, some don't. Sometimes they hurt like hell, sometimes they're just a twinge. It's okay to use a tampon. Be prepared for your period to come at any time; keep pads or tampons in the house. Talk to your doctor, your mother, your friends who have their period, or some other woman that you trust. Ask the school nurse or health teacher even.

Where is your mother??? Can you not talk to her on this??? Anyway, I am a mother, your period starts on average every 28 days, sometimes 30, every person is different. DON'T use a pad going into the water. Use a tampon, first time use of a tampon can be difficult. Make sure that you relax when using it, or it can be difficult in putting it in.

most women get their period every 28 days +/-. Some women it's sooner, some longer. Don't worry, unless you have had sex. But, stress also causes it to be delayed....and you sound stressed out! There aren't any pads you can swim with, sorry. Tampons may seem intimidating, but if you buy the Playtex Slender ones you could try those. I haven't used pads in many many years. Let's see-what else about periods---sometimes there's not just blood but thicker stuff that comes out. Don't worry, totally normal. Welcome to womanhood!

Honey, a lot of times your period will be irregular especially the first year. don't worry about it. I would just make sure I had pads with me all the time, at least until you get a regular pattern down.
there are no pads that are water resistant, you probably need to try a tampon.

First of all you will be irregular for a while. If you want to go in the pool you have to wear a tampon. It isn't healthy for other people if you don't. when you are out of the water wear a pad. you are supposed to wear a pad for 2 years. This is so you get used to your flow and how heavy it is. This will help decide the right tampon latter when you choose to wear them.

I had my first period at age 12 and didn't have another until a year later. There's nothing to worry about (unless you are having sex), every women's body is different. Remember to change your tampon or pad at least every two hours. On your light days this might be hard to remember, but it's important to do this to keep yourself clean.
