I live in Singapore, and plan to leave someday...I was thinking Japan, America, Canada, Britain or Europe. Details: I'm an aspiring animator, English-speaking Chinese who wouldn't mind learning a new language, prefers the four seasons to tropical weather, loves the liberal arts, likes nature and friendly folks, seeks a country with a deep and meaningful history, and can live with the threat of terrorism. Any ideas?

Canada is a beautiful place to live and it is not too expensive either. THe Rokies are a great place to go to and you can find work in your field and it is fairly cheap to travel overseas.

There is a great cultural mix within the Art scene and people are quite nice and helpful.

Hope that helps. Hve lived there myself and enjoyed it. The downside is the weather. Very cold during the winter months.

Either Japan or USA is your best bet for what you want. You're most likely to get jobs easier in USA because animation jobs are mostly about networking and pitching it to the right people, and the western culture are more receptive to newcomers than Japanese.

Most animators in the US goes either to the west coast (California) or east coast (New York or Florida) because that's where the major studios are. Out of these states, New York has a more distinct four seasons, but not much on nature (New Yorkers are friendly, though).

I think you would like New York City. It has an animation industry, four seasons, and a deep meaningful history all its own. It's a difficult place to live in some ways; very expensive, very competitive, but it's worth it. Rich in culture, the people are extremely friendly, but seem aggressive. (They are nice, but they definitely have a New York way about them that takes some getting used to.)

Five or six years ago, I would have told you that the USA is the best place in the world to go. Now, I think Australia might be a better choice, from what I hear of them. The USA is in big trouble and no one seems to have the guts to fix what is wrong, our politicians are probably the most corrupt in the world.
