Number 1 advice... DO NOT follow anything that Austin Stevens does. He may know alot about the different snakes, but he is a total dumbass when it comes to successfully handling venomous snakes. Even some of the non-venomous he is totally clueless as witnessed on several of his shows now.

If you are seriously interested in taking up snake photography, you should first find a snake keeper/breeder that might allow you to take photos of their private collections. Do a search for a herp society in your area or even some reptile forums. There are tons.

And finally... stay away from the venomous until you have mastered the art of safe snake handling. I guarantee you will get bit if you just rush out and do what Austin Stevens does. Alot of people believe that the snakes he is finding in the wild and grabbing are actually captive bred snakes staged for him to find

Good Luck with your next challenge.

Start by handling the non venomous ones. I'm serious. They move like greased lightning. If you can't read their body language you're in trouble.
You've got a head start with your background. All you need to do is get in touch with some keen herpatologists, enthusiasts are likely to welcome the chance to teach you if in return you get some nice shots of their snakes.
Best of luck to you.
