This is normal for a girl who is only just starting her cycle. Sometimes the period is irregular or skips entirely, and sometimes she might get a bit of spotting between periods.
The OBGYN's seem to think that the menstrual cycle goes through a bit of a "warming up" phase.
Periods can also become irregular towards menopause.

Initially periods are irregular, unpredictable, painless, and anovulatory (meaning without ovulation). But anytime after having your first period you may become pregnant.
The absense of a period or menstrual cycle can be caused by many things, so it would be wise to make a GYN appt. and talk with your Dr. about this.
Remember there are no dumb questions and your Dr. should be more than happy to help you understand anything you are concerned about.

Yes it is normal. That happens to every girl when they get started. Nothing wrong with you. In a couple of years you will get it every month and your body decides how many days a month you will get it. Just keep track of it. I used to get them 3 times a day and bleed lightly when I first started. After a year it went up to four and then 5 then 7, I was angry. But then it clam it self down and I have it 4 days every month. Sometimes I bleed heavy or sometimes light. Don't worry about it. Your body will get used to it.

It is very normal. Probably the first year will be irregular in cycles, days that it lasts and amount of flow. Talk to your mom.

This is perfectly normal. When you first start your period, your body is still changing and the hormone levels regulating your cycle are also fluctuating. It could take a few years for you to become completely regular.
