traditionally men should be dominant over women, and women guided by a male. i don't mean to be sexist, that's just the best explanation i could find.

My daughter is a "Daddy's girl"; always was. She had a great relationship with her Mom when she was alive. Those two would do all kinds of stuff together.
But, my daughter & I are very close. I don't spoil her; more like, I indulge her.
When she was younger & wanted to go outside to look for bugs or rocks, I'd go with her, instead of just letting her play in the backyard alone. We'd go, and still do, down to Portland's Saturday Market. There's a hotdog stand we always visit when we stop in. And go to the local baseball games.
Being a "Daddy's girl" can influence the girl in a positive way in life if the Dad is true - how a gentleman should treat a lady; what kinds of situations to watch out for; in other words, how to be independent while maintaining a close relationship.
Conversely, a "Momma's boy" is always hanging onto her apron strings relying on her to bail him out of every situation. He'll also grow to expect any future wife to perform all the tasks his Mom did for him - which is totally unrealistic.

As the mother of a momma's boy, I must say that some of the more tender aspects of a man's character can be enriched by a mothers input. My daughter-in-law has told me on numerous occasions how much she appreciates my son. She says that she wanted a man who was close to his mother because he would know how to cherish her! She is a woman in total love with her husband. So I am very proud of and happy for my mommas boy.

In my experience, it's a problem for future women in our lives. They (women) tend to say that we always compare everything to mamas. I guess it's only a problem when you try telling them that moms meatloaf didn't have rice in it.......
