Most of you are beating around the bush you really need to study the issue and think more deeply/thorughly about such things such as Inaleanable Rights, You can not be seperated from these rights no matter what ... and other things as well.

I am not sure what exactly you are asking, but our nation was designed to be both united under a general law (constitution) and a more regionalized state, county and city law. The reason this came about was that not everybody in various parts of the county felt the same way about things (i.e. people in Texas feel different about gun laws or abortion than preople in Rhode Island). This was definately not a mistake of our forefathers.

I think the biggest mistake was in not spelling out in greater detail the exact powers of the federal government and limiting those powers. However, they never imagined a federal government infringing on the state's rights. Just as I am sure they never imagined people arguing about "in God we trust", or not being able to wear the American flag to school, or any of the other silly things that by themselves mean nothing. Yet when you take each one and add it to the next, it means an eroding away of our personal freedoms. I am not talking just about Bush, this started with ol' Abe Lincoln and has continued with each president since.
kreevich: btw state militia was not a paid, organized group of men. They were farmers, bankers, barbers, doctors, etc. they ALL owned a gun and when there was threat, they grabbed THEIR gun and reported for duty. So that is why EACH citizen should be carrying and owning a gun, They are the state militia!

I think that the biggest mistake that our forefathers ever did was to allow the Federal government to grab as much power as it has. The Federal government should shrink back to only protection and treating with other governments. Send everything back to the State/ county/ local level where it belongs. Also, disband the Teacher's Union and allow the school to be more competitive. Our educational system is one of the worse in the Industrialized World and gets worse every year.

It was the wording of the second amendment. By giving a weirdly worded reason for the right to keep and bear arms, the courts have too much room to misinterpret who that right applies to.
