That is a good thought and a good question to ponder on. Nature as we know it provides beauty with function. I think the spider is aware only of the function of the web, that is, provide shelter and a means to catch prey and food. The beauty of it is for us, humans to behold. The flies do not see the beauty of the web but the potential peril it can bring.

They are very fussy about it, but I don't think it's aesthetics. More programmed efficiency - better the web, more likely they catch dinner. Also, they have to be able to move along a known route to avoid their own sticky strands from sticking to them when they move for escape or to pounce on prey. And for some, like orb weavers, the design of the web and especially the design of the approach path for the male is very important.
P.S. Some scientists (AND old hippies) experimented on spiders with lsd, pot and other drugs. The orb weavers in particular made some very disturbing webs!

In all probability he does appreciate the beauty because for obvious reasons. First its his sweet home and secondly it provides him bread and butter too....so its but natural that creation from one's own blood and sweat is an appreciable matter.

I would like to think so, but most biologists would be skeptical about the spider's ability to appreciate anything.

I doubt it. It is probably only thinking about the flies it is going to catch and devour in it.
